CheckBirr ("we", "the app") helps Ethiopian merchants verify that payment receipts (Telebirr and CBE) are genuine. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
When you photograph a receipt, the image is used only to read the transaction reference at that moment. Receipt photos are not stored on our servers after processing.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share your data with advertisers.
To confirm a payment, the transaction reference number you enter is checked against publicly available verification services and the public receipt pages provided by the relevant payment provider (Telebirr / Ethio Telecom and the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia). Only the transaction reference is used for this check — it is the same information printed on the customer's own receipt. This is done solely to confirm whether the payment is genuine.
Account information and verified receipt references are retained while your account is active and as needed to prevent fraud. You may request deletion of your account by contacting us.
Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form. We take reasonable measures to protect your information.
CheckBirr is a business tool intended for merchants and is not directed at children under 13.
